Dear David: I've been developing white spots on my fingernails over the past two months after not having any for almost a year. I've heard this could mean a zinc deficiency. Are there any other causes that you know of?
Dave: The actual clinical research that’s been done on this indicates that it’s specifically a zinc deficiency. So that has been studied clinically in a controlled setting to find out actually what’s the cause and it’s been determined that zinc is actually the cause. So, how do you get more zinc in your diet? Well, I’d recommend if you really have a problem with it, get onto angstrom zinc for awhile. That’s even better than plant source zinc because generally the food is so poor in minerals these days and when I say that I mean specifically poor in zinc. That’s one of the main minerals that our soil is deficient in that you’re not gonna get enough zinc unless it’s from superfoods or some kind of a supplemental source and I would really recommend in this case to get it from angstrom zinc. It’s the most available.
