Dear David: Why does it seem like pathogenic bacteria, fungi, worms and other parasites seem to attack raw animal food more than raw plant food. Why is it that a cup of raw cows milk has more pathogenic bacteria than a cup of raw hemp seed milk. Why is it that a small steak cut has more wriggling things than in a small pack of almonds and why does it seem like mommy nature wants to recycle and compost cute furry animals and bestdayever members more than leaves, stalks and flowers?
Dave: That’s a good question. Okay, well it has to do with the fact that plants have alkaloids in them by their nature and it’s a plant by the way is ten times more genetically complex than an animal.
LF: Really?
DW: Yes. So let’s get, we’ve got to get that right on the table right away just so we’re clear about how, what’s going on in the Planet Earth. Plants are much more powerful than animals in terms of their ability to survive and the reason why that is is because the plant is an alchemical factory. You know, plants can survive without us, we can’t survive without plants. Plants have alkaloids that basically protect them or compounds or polysaccharides or whatever the plant’s using to protect them from fungus, yeast, mold, viruses, whatever it is that are acting as nature’s recyclers.
If we culture plants, for example, domesticate them so that they lose their bitter alkaloids then the plants will become subject to the same disorders, virus, mold, whatever. Anyway, the reason why like a you know a small piece of meat will suddenly be attacked by bacteria is because that meat is a piece of a whole that has been removed and in an animal complex organism once that oxygen flow is stopped and that nourishment to that tissue is stopped, it loses it’s ability to defend itself from bacteria. In fact, it become subject to bacterial decay. Plants don’t. Each part of the plant has intrinsic to it’s nature alkaloids. Like the leaves, the alkaloids are in the leaf itself, they ’re in the structure of the leaf and that’s one of the reasons why, you know, herbal teas work is because the herb itself, the plant itself actually has compounds in it’s structure that don’t go away when the plant is chopped or you know pulled out of the ground or whatever.
